WINTER UPDATE
The season maybe over but Electricity Sports will be very active over the winter, please take notice of the following… Winter nets Winter nets start again...
Between the years of 1901 and 1939, Aylestone Road was home to Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and there were 399 first class games played in total.
As a result, not only did legendary players of fellow counties play at this ground, but also touring sides of Australia, South Africa, West Indies, India and New Zealand. Below is a list of some of the legends:
WG Grace
Herbert Sutcliffe
Ernest Tyldesley
Jack Hobbs
George Geary
Wally Hammond
Douglas Jardine
Don Bradman
Hedley Verity
Stan McCabe
Len Hutton
The ground is currently undergoing changes as a result of development by Persimmon Homes on part of the former outfield. The remaining area of the ground is more compact and the aim is to make it one of the highest quality cricket grounds in the county. A new cricket square has been built and 2011 will be its second year of use. The new square should be continually improving, subject to the vagaries of the English weather.
Demolition of redundant out buildings will take place in early 2011 and this will create a larger car parking area. The Pavilion is due to be the subject of external refurbishment works by Persimmon Homes during 2011 and thereafter Electricity Sports CC will undertake internal renovation and decoration.
There are plans to provide fixed outdoor practice net facilities to supplement the current roll-on cages on the new artificial pitch at the edge of the cricket square.
