Cricket Force Ground Working Party Weekend

This is to be held on Saturday the 31^st March and Sunday the 1^st of April from 10am to 6pm each day. There are plenty of opportunities for both the skilled and unskilled including cleaning, painting, furniture and equipment repair, and grounds maintenance including rolling of the cricket square and outfield. Equipment will be provided. If the weather is poor, there will still be inside jobs to do. Even if you can only spare a couple of hours either day, that would still be useful. Free T shirt for all participants!

Indoor Practice Nets

Winter nets finish at Grace Road Indoor School on Wednesday the 28th March. 3 sessions left 8-9pm.

Outdoor Practice Session

We are to hold an outdoor practice session on grass wickets at our ground on Saturday 14^th April from 2pm- 6pm. All players welcome.

Outdoor Weekly Practice Nets

These will commence on Wednesday the 18^th April from 6.30 to 8pm. If you intend to play for our teams the captains expect you to make every endeavour to attend.

Practice Game

Weather permitting, we hope to have a practice game on Saturday 21st April from 1pm at our ground.

League & Cup Fixtures

The first league matches of the season are on Saturday the 28th April. The team captains for this year as decided at the AGM are as follows:

Social Event

We are holding a club social night at the pavilion on Saturday the 14th April from 7.30pm. This will include a fun quiz, but for those not joining in, the back bar will be open.

Winter nets

Winter nets start again on Wednesday the 11^th January from 8pm to 9pm at the County Cricket Indoor School, Grave Road (Curzon Road entrance). We have two lanes at this time and so there will be good opportunities for batting and bowling.

Ground Working Party

We are to have a Ground Working party on Sunday the 15^th January from 11am to 6pm. The intention is to erect the ball stop netting posts in front of the car park and to start on refurbishment of the home and away changing rooms. Please help out, even if you can only do a couple of hours.

Football and Rugby Matches

If any one can spare the time when either Leicester City football or Leicester Tigers rugby matches are at home, your assistance in helping with car parking and in the bar would be most welcome.

Bosworth start the better and find scoring easy with wayward bowling at times, a slow wicket and short boundaries all helping before Kish and Joey finally restore some order. The opening stand is finally broken thanks to a sharp catch at 1^st slip by Ash. With Bosworth’s top four then back in the club house with 121 on the board we have a chance to restrict the hosts to a gettable score, but a brisk 27 not out by B Davies helps Bosworth to 186 about 30 to many even with Joey’s 1^st 5 for of the season, Davies himself keeping out the hat trick ball.

Tea, was ok nothing worth singing about

187 to win then, no repeat of last weeks batting class from Kish, only Deaks and Uday passing 20, wickets fall to some pretty ordinary bowling and we are finally all out with the 1^st ball of the last over still needing 36. Are we safe? I think so but points needed to make sure next week at Bardon last game of a disappointing season after such promise from the 1^st seven games.

Man of the match, N Bateman (Bosworth) Batted well for his 58 as did Uday for his 42, Abid took another brilliant catch in the deep, but for me this week for his bowling figures 15-4-47-5 its Joe Carolan.

Ratby inviting use to bat 1^st and bat we do. After a shaky start seeing both Ranbir and Ash back in the pavilion we are 29 for 2 but thanks to a massive partnership between Kish and Deaks we are looking at the biggest home score for a few seasons. Good running between the wickets, fine timing and class boundaries soon has the score at 205 before Kish finally runs out of gas on 76, Deaks following shortly after just 3 runs short of his 1^st Century for a few seasons. Joey keeps the score going with a quick fire brutal 27 thanks to a massive six which is still on the factory roof on Brazil Street. We finish 260 for 6.

Tea, yet another great tea from Mrs Deacon.

Ratby need 261 to win then and after Deaks 1^st over the chase looks on. Sheps restores some order though removing Chadwick in a brilliant 1^st over beating the bat 4 times before nicking behind for a regulation catch. Deaks struggling before Cockerill tries to go over the top but ends up driving straight back at the Bowler and Ratby are 22 for 2. Ratby still keep the board ticking before the umpire warns Sheps for his follow through this only angers Sheps how then bowls the quickest delivery i have seen batsmen beaten by shear pace hits leg stump half way up, top half goes cart wheeling, bottom half still rooted in the ground, never seen a stump broken clean in half. Ollie picks up one and when Ranbir removes Macleod the game is a good as over, just leaves Abid the piper to clean up the remaining rats. All out 95 in 22 over’s.

Man of the match, Kish and Deaks both batted superbly, and every bowler picked up at least one wicket but this week thanks to a long umpiring session and a brilliant bowling spell resulting in smashing leg stump clean in half its Matt Sheppard.

Big improvements from last week, we manage to bat for 45 over’s just and post a decent score, thanks mainly to a solid 63 from Ranbir. Ash, Deaks and Ollie make 20’s apiece with extra’s scoring well too. 185 all out.

Mountsorrel need 186 to win then with 18 wickets in hand, well that’s how many we are going to need to get out if we are going to win and we need to catch them or bowl them because this being the 20^th of august, the 18^th league game, City away, grass cut north to south and 13 pence exactly in change in my wallet if you look in the rule book if all these are in place then the LBW law is not applicable. 166 for 16 sorry 9 forgot about the LBW law not counting today, well bowled Leccy you deserved the win but not to be. (Keeper had a shocker mind but i blame the 13p in my wallet put me off balance!)
